South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) and Economic Research Group (ERG) jointly organized a workshop on proposal writing in environmental economics. This workshop provided a valuable opportunity for Bangladeshi researchers working in the field of environmental and natural resource economics to learn about the techniques of proposal writing and also to join the pool of researchers working with SANDEE's network. The workshop was conducted by international and local resource persons and involved participants from a wide cross section of institutes from Bangladesh. The key objectives of the workshop:
• to develop proposal writing skills of young and upcoming researchers of environmental economics and other related branches of knowledge
• to introduce key current policy concerns and research themes of environmental economics
• to encourage original research aimed at strengthening and upgrading efforts for sustainable development in Bangladesh and South Asia region.
The workshop enabled participants to develop the skills required to write competitive research proposals on relevant issues, provide them with training in logical development of research ideas and to improve their presentation skills in academic fora. It also provided technical inputs and resource persons' comments on research concepts presented by participants while helping to forge links with peer scholars working in international, regional and national contexts. Further, it offered opportunity for Bangladeshi researchers in environmental and natural resource economics to join the SANDEE network and its research activities encouraging them to submit research proposals to the SANDEE in future. Overall it envisions facilitating and promoting innovative research to enhance the professional development and career advancement of young researchers by encouraging new thinking.
