Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) are jointly organizing a workshop on proposal writing in environmental economics. This would provide a valuable opportunity for Sri Lankan researchers working in the field of environmental and natural resource economics to learn about the techniques of proposal writing and also to join the pool of researchers working with the SANDEE's network. The workshop will be conducted by international and local resource persons and would involve participants from a wide cross section of institutes from Sri Lanka only. Among the key objectives of the workshop are:
• to develop proposal writing skills of young and upcoming researchers of environmental economics and other related branches of knowledge
• to introduce key current policy concerns and research themes of environmental economics
• to encourage original research aimed at strengthening and upgrading efforts for sustainable development in Sri Lanka and South Asia region.
The workshop will enable participants to develop the skills required to write competitive research proposals on relevant issues, provide them with training in logical development of research ideas and to improve their presentation skills in academic fora. It will also provide technical inputs and resource persons' comments on research concepts presented by participants while helping to forge links with peer scholars working in international, regional and national contexts. Further, it will offer opportunity for Sri Lankan researchers in environmental and natural resource economics to join the SANDEE network and its research activities encouraging them to submit research proposals to the SANDEE in future. Overall it envisions facilitating and promoting innovative research to enhance the professional development and career advancement of young researchers by encouraging new thinking.
