SANDEE's primary objectives are to: |
| » |
Strengthen the ability of researchers in South Asia to undertake research on the economics of environmental and natural resource problems; |
| » |
Support the growth of policy-relevant literature on economic development and environmental change; |
| » |
Aid the development of environment and natural resource economics in teaching and research institutions; and, |
| » |
Facilitate dialogue among economists, other scholars, and policy makers on environment and natural resource concerns. |
These objectives are met through a series of research, training and information dissemination activities. |
| |
SANDEE offers research and technical support in three areas: a) economics of natural resource use and regulations; b) policies for pollution management; and c) climate change economics. SANDEE’s research is facilitated through biannual meetings, which bring together scholars from within and outside the South Asia and enable training and peer networking. SANDEE’s research guidelines are available on www.sandeeonline.org.
| |
SANDEE offers training workshops on methodological issues, scientific writing and policy concerns related to environment and development economics. Our flagship course is a basic course in ‘Environment and Natural Resource Economics’, which is offered each year. Advanced courses such as Computable General Equilibrium Modeling, Climate Science for Economists and Advanced Econometrics are offered for SANDEE researchers.

| Institutional Support in Under-served Areas |
SANDEE assists institutions from the ‘under-served areas’ in South Asia with specialized training workshops, post-graduate fellowships and through institutional support. Institutional aid is available for training faculty, building library material and for curriculum development. SANDEE also undertakes dedicated workshops on policy and methodological issues in countries or regions where there is a clear capacity gap.

| Information Dissemination and Policy Dialogue |
SANDEE publishes working papers, policy briefs, newsletters, bibliographies and methodological tools and tutorials for researchers. All of SANDEE’s publications are available on its website and many are distributed through a list serve that reaches over 1600 researchers in the region. SANDEE also supports policy dialogue on environmental issues through policy training and ‘dissemination and dialogue’ workshops that are undertaken by its researchers in various parts of South Asia.
