SANDEE's 5th Biannual Research and Training workshop was held at the BRAC Center for Development Management (BCDM) at Rajendrapur near Dhaka, Bangladesh from December 16 to 20, 2002. SANDEE grantees presented the progress reports of their ongoing research and new research applicants also presented their research proposals before SANDEE's Technical Advisory Committee. We are pleased to annouce our six new grantees for the coming year. We were honored to have Nobel Laureate Prof. Ken Arrow as a part of the Resource Team in this meeting. As part our efforts to disseminate information, SANDEE and the Bangladesh Economic Association jointly hosted a public seminar by Prof. Arrow. In this public lecture Prof. Arrow spoke on Some Paradoxes of Sustainability: Empirical and Theoretical. We also had Prof. Partha Dasgupta's public presentation hosted by North South University (NSU) and Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), his presentation was on Sustainable Development and the Economics of Poverty.
