Heat waves can cause havoc during South Asia's hot summers. While such weather phenomena may need to be endured, their impacts can be reduced. Research suggests that information distributed through newspapers and TV advertisements can significantly reduce the death toll from heat waves. A steady marketing approach that creates awareness about heat waves through multiple media over a period of time is vital. However, more targeted interventions may be required to reduce the vulnerability of the elderly and poor.
