SANDEE@10 - Environment and Development in South Asia

December 6th-7th, 2010, Kathmandu, Nepal

The South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE) was inaugurated in November 1999 in Godavari village, Kathmandu, Nepal with the mission of building research and teaching capacity in the region in environment and natural resource economics. Scholars from several countries, including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka gathered at this inaugural event to chart a course for SANDEE. Ten years down the road SANDEE is alive and growing, and researchers interested in South Asia's environment and development challenges will come together once again to share their knowledge.

On December 6-7th 2010, SANDEE will celebrate a decade of research and training with a conference on ‘Environment and Development in South Asia'. Some one hundred scholars and policy makers are expected to congregate at this two-day event in Kathmandu to present their work and discuss the future research & training needs of the region. As South Asian countries struggle to balance economic growth, poverty reduction and environmental conservation goals, this conference offers an opportunity to learn from on-going research within and outside South Asia.  Confirmed keynote speakers include Nobel Laureate Elinor Ostrom, Sir Partha Dasgupta and Prof. Karl Goran Maler, among others.  Our partners in hosting this conference include the Asia Foundation, IDRC, Sida, NORAD and the World Bank.
