PRIYA SHYAMSUNDAR is
Program Director for the South Asian Network for Development
and Environmental Economics (SANDEE). As part of its various
activities, SANDEE has supported over 60 research projects in
the area of poverty and natural resource management, valuation
of non-market goods, common property resource use and the economics
of pollution management. Priya has also been a consultant for
many years to the Environment Department of the World Bank.
Her work in this area has mostly been on issues related to poverty
and environment. Most recently, she led a team that was responsible
for a new World Bank book on this issue. Prior to her work with
SANDEE and the Bank, Priya served as Senior Program Officer
for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and as
Research Associate at the Institute of Social Studies Trust.
Priya’s research interests range over a number of topics
within environment and development economics. She has a Ph.D.
in Environmental Economics from Duke University. Her other most
important qualification is being mom to two happy and challenging
children: Tulsi and Kabir. |

Pranab Mukhopadhyay, Even
though Pranab formally joined SANDEE in 2005 he has been associated
with it from its inception as a first round grantee. He earlier
taught Economics at Goa University for ten years and has been
a visiting scholar at Warwick University (Coventry) University
of California (Berkeley), Jawaharlal Nehru University (New
Delhi) and the Centre for Urban Economic Studies (Calcutta).
He holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi
and his areas of research interest are environment, development
and macroeconomics. As Economist at SANDEE, he looks after
the technical editing of working papers, coordinates the training
programmes, provides technical support to research grants
and oversees the Under-Served areas program. He has published
in Environment and Development Economics, Economic and Political
Weekly and some edited volumes. He is also the co-editor of
the volume Promise, Trust and Evolution: Managing the Commons
of South Asia (OUP, Clarendon, 2008). |

Kavita
T. Shrestha, Administrative
Officer joined SANDEE in March 2001. She has been instrumental
in managing SANDEE’s research activities and supporting
SANDEE’s growth as an organization. Her responsibilities
include grants management, organizing research workshops, and
managing the administrative tasks of the secretariat. She has
B. A. Honours in Geography from Punjab University and a post-graduate
diploma in Tourism from Delhi Tourism Board. Previously, she
worked as a senior executive for marketing in Vaidhya Organization
of Industry and Trading Houses. |

Anuradha Kafle
works as research and information officer and has been with
SANDEE since October 2002. She manages the information and research
dissemination process, organizes regional training workshops,
and supports implementation of programs in underserved areas.
Before joining SANDEE she worked as a lecturer and as Program
Assistant in the GEF/Small Grants Program of UNDP, Nepal. She
has a Masters degree in Zoology with a major in Ecology from
Tribhuwan University, Nepal. Her long term research and activism
interests are in wildlife conservation and natural resource
management. |
